The best thing about spring starts in the fall. Have you guessed what I am talking about? There could be lots of answers here, mostly relating to flowers. The best part of spring for me is the daffodils. Ever since I was young I have been around daffodils in the spring. Whether in my parents yard, friends yards, the church yard, even in the school yard; they are always the harbingers of spring. Daffodils starting the fall with the planting of the bulbs.
Spring 2019 was our first spring in our home in Tennessee. There were lots of surprises in the yard and I had so much fun discovering native and planted treasures. Many daffodils, so many! It was a wonderful surprise but I didn't love the placement. So I dug, divided and replanted. Below are photos of what was already on the property when we moved there. I can't wait to see them this year. I may attempt to ID them next spring but I didn't feel like I had the resources then.
This year I was invited to and did join the Middle Tennessee Daffodil Society. I was lucky enough to attend their fall meeting and bulb swap. I won't tell you how many bulbs I received because I don't want y'all horning in on my stash. Just kidding, they are an excellent resource and if you are serious about daffodils then you should join. The group is not for the faint of heart though. They speak in classifications and judging terms, not just " oh that is pretty." They have me nerding out so much that I started a journal for the bulbs I am planting this fall.
After that meeting, I went a little nuts online buying daffodil bulbs. Now I have about 250 bulbs to plant. I am not even worried about that work though. It will all pay off when I see those flowers in the spring. I will post pictures with names then. To be continued Spring 2020.
